Meet Ana

Ana La O' is an artist behind the studio that makes limited edition products. Their craft is informed by a personal painting practice and experience in fabric development. She is based out of Manila, Philippines.

OPTIMISM AND SCARCITY

I've been thinking about moments of optimism in times of scarcity.

During the Manila quarantine, I was blocked from my studio, moodboard, fabrics and dyes. I'm not sure when I'll be able to go back or source new materials. I'm at home instead, staring at the sky, hand sewing for the first time, and making new things out of old things.

Ana Lao's mask

The broken seams of my grandpa's silk shirt opened up possibilities for dress and blouse draping. Old pillow cases became masks. Two masks became a summer bra. I'm longing for the sun outside that can no longer be experienced in leisure - that's a quarantine restriction here.

I'm holding on to the hope that I can make small steps forward in the present stillness.
